Xiaomi is counting down the days until the imminent unveiling of its new smartphone series, the Xiaomi 17. Following company president Lu Weibing’s announcement that he would hold a livestream to answer questions, including why the series skipped the Xiaomi 16 name and went straight to the 17, new details about the launch date have also leaked. Here are the details.
Xiaomi 17 May Be Launched Early in China
According to an industry source, the Xiaomi 17 series could launch in China as early as September 30th. While this information has not yet been officially confirmed, Xiaomi’s recent announcement of the 17 Pro series suggests that the official launch date will be announced soon.
Rumors suggest the series will consist of three models: the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max. While details about the standard version are limited, information about the Pro models has already surfaced.
According to previous leaks and benchmark results, both the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the standard Xiaomi 17 will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. This processor features two performance cores clocked at 4.61 GHz and six efficiency cores clocked at 3.63 GHz.
Early Geekbench tests yielded impressive single-core scores of 3,096 and multi-core scores of 9,382, suggesting strong performance in both daily use and gaming. The device is expected to come with 16GB of RAM and run Android 16-based HyperOS 3.
Xiaomi’s latest promotional video confirms the return of the rear display on the Pro models, thanks to a feature called “Magic Rear Display.” This rectangular secondary display wraps around the camera island and can be personalized with watch faces, avatars, or GIFs.
On the camera front, the Xiaomi 17 Pro is expected to feature a 50-megapixel main sensor (f/1.67 aperture), a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens (f/3.0 aperture) offering 5x optical zoom. The Pro Max version will offer a slightly brighter f/2.6 zoom lens. As with previous models, the cameras are said to be developed and tuned in collaboration with Leica.
